Each year the committee seeks new ways of attracting people, and improving the event and this year was no different - with Birds of Prey, a new cave experience and the big Bike Fix there was more to do and see than ever before! Holbeck Gala is a genuine community event. We acknowledge with thanks the help of agencies and organisations without whose support the event would be difficult to stage. This year the gala was held on Saturday 5th July on Holbeck Moor keeping up with the 70-year tradition of holding such an event on the moor. Once again we had very good feedback that people had enjoyed the day. This year we were lucky to have a fine, dry and warm day, if a bit windy. We had about two thousand local residents came out to enjoy the day and see what was on offer and have some fun. We were also joined by an increasing number of people from other parts of the city. The gala is helping Holbeck to become a destination!Stalls were all under cover this year either in our new marketplace or in professional gazebos and along the paths. We had a total of 46 stalls this year made up of market-type stalls, food, information and entertainment. A Cafe and a BBQ were also organised by our committee and we want to say a huge thank you to the volunteers, all local residents, who served all day!We had a fun and accessible children's area in the corner of the Moor with acitvities from local charity Kidzklub as well as the library bus, farm animals and our wonderful sensory tent aimed particularly to support SEND children attending the day. We had Inflatables which were free to play on as the committee agreed to use funds to cover the full cost, activities provided by the Youth Team, a climbing wall, cave experience, birds of Prey, Drumming with Re:establish Youth group, and entertainment by DJ Danny which all helped to make the Gala a fun place for kids. This years event featured a diverse range of entertainment. One central stage on the Moor featured many different artists and local dance groups. This year, we had 20 volunteers - not including the committee (who are also all volunteers). They came from established South Leeds communities and between them they worked 207 hours for free. A massive “thank you” to all of them! They got through a vast range of work: setting up stalls, moving generators, directing traffic, looking after lost children, picking up litter and managing stalls, etc...The Committee would like to thank all our supporters who helped make this year’s Gala the most successful on record and everyone who came along and made it such a great day.
